Symposium theme
The discovery of identities is sometimes cited as the basis of scientific inquiry, and it can be argued that the same applies to the context of management and organizations. Identity and identification are important means by which we can comprehend contemporary organizations; and as such, they can shed light on management issues and help to discern employee, customer and stakeholder’s associations with institutions.

This symposium will build on the above perspectives and will be open to in-depth literature reviews , conceptual and empirical studies covering a variety of identity perspectives (e.g., organizational identity, corporate identity, corporate brand identity, social identity.) It will also allow for identity perspectives that exist in the realm of corporate communications (e.g., communicated identity); leadership (e.g., visionary identity) and strategy (e.g., ideal identity). We are especially interested in issues of identity vis a vis the management of change.

We welcome perspectives from a range of management disciplines, such as organizational behavior, strategy, marketing, human resources, ethics, and corporate communications among others. We hope that cross-disciplinary perspectives might be included as well.

We welcome scholars to submit papers which focus on the following themes:
  • Analyzing the role of multiple corporate and social identities for organizational change
  • Comparing institutional, corporate, organizational and social identity approaches and theories
  • Analyzing the role of leadership for organizational identity and change
  • Analyzing issues of identity and identification in corporate (re)branding
  • Analyzing organizational change, routines, identity and legitimization
  • Analyzing the link between corporate social responsibility, identity and change
